The AA's British Insurance Premium Index has revealed a fall in the cost of car insurance and has raised fears of a price war.

The index, which has been running for 10 years, shows that the average price quoted for comprehensive car insurance fell 2% from £776 to £759 - the biggest fall since January 1996. The cost of non-comprehensive cover fell by 1% from £910 to £902.

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1
