Thousands of people a year are incapacitated by apparently trivial objects such as vacuum cleaners and flowerpots. But, as Liz Moore explains, it's no laughing matter for intermediaries' clients

If you look up the word 'accident' in the dictionary the definition will be along the lines of 'something that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, which often damages something or someone'. It is a word we use frequently in the English language. We also use phrases like 'an accident waiting to happen' or 'more by accident than design', and we never think it will happen to us. We train ourselves psychologically to be positive; if we think we are going to have an accident, we probably will.
