The acquisition of ITT L&E by Norwich Union serves to demonstrate the stranglehold the major companies are developing.

Have you noticed how the world appears to be shrinking? Following the
announcement that ITT L&E was to be acquired by Norwich Union, I realised
how Alice in Wonderland must have felt, as this came as a similar shock to
the system. In the midst of speculation over its potential suitors, NU
takes over a 'broker's friend', apparently ignoring the advice of Merrill
Lynch, which felt it should reduce its book of general insurance
business.


Some may feel I am over-reacting, but look at the insurance
