I write in response to your article "Nacho seeks to build bridges"(PB, August, p3), in which you labelled Accident-care Group a credit hire
company.
Accidentcare is, in fact, not a credit hire company and, indeed, runs the
Lumacare scheme on behalf of the Association of British Insurers.
I would like to take this opportunity of explaining our services in this
context.
Accidentcare was formed in 1992 and is principally a claims and accident
management company working on behalf of motorists. The company's products
are sold on an annual membership basis similar to that of the AA or
RAC.
The Gold and Platinum membership benefits include an underwritten car hire
provision should the member's own vehicle be immobilised.
This provision is available fault and non-fault - irrespective of the
insurance cover held by the driver.
Through its subsidiary Lumacare, Accidentcare provides an in-depth,
pro-active third-party accident damage claims management facility for
insurers.
This scheme was originally developed for the Lloyd's market and operates
"without prejudice" with regards to the question of a driver's
liability.
Accidentcare's philosophy is one of total customer service, with the prime
objective of looking after all motorists' needs, whether they are
accident, theft, windscreen or vandalism - regardless of who is at
fault.
In the coming months, we are hoping to introduce affiliated products
targeted at existing members as well as affinity groups, motor dealers and
internet-based companies.
It should be noted, however, that none of Accidentcare's products
encompass credit hire, or have any connection with the credit hire
industry.
All the products are underwritten and have no recourse to the client.
Moreover, the company has no intention of joining, nor have we been asked
to join any credit hire industry association.
