As more insurers merge and acquire, the number of markets available to brokers becomes ever smaller. George Higginson tells Tim Collison the time is right to set up a new personal lines syndicate at Lloyd's.

At the end of last year, rumours circulated around the market that,
at the age of 55, Link's motor underwriter George Higginson was
retiring.


Having been at Link for 27 years - the last 10 as active underwriter - the
news of his imminent departure was greeted with both surprise and concern
in some quarters of the broker market.


And people were right to be surprised, for while Mr Higginson has now left
Link, he had no intention of retiring. "My time had come as far as Link
was concerned," explains Mr
