I read with interest the letter from David Bearman in your Augustedition (p13) regarding his recent experience with General Accident (now
CGU). We ourselves suffered a similar fate with this insurer, only in our
case the account has been transferred to one of our local competitors.
At the time, the manager at General Accident's Cheltenham office told me
that it was he and his company's view that small independent
intermediaries are a dying breed and that our account of approximately
£160,000
