Products: Biba health plan draws fire from health specialists

A new private medical insurance scheme for general insurance brokers set up by the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba) has raised the hackles of specialists operating in this arena.

The MYWellbeing plan, underwritten by Axa PPP and administered and distributed by Jelf Employee Benefits, targets brokers who do not specialise in the area but want to offer private healthcare as part of a more complete service to their clients.

Brian Walters, director of Regency Health, has labelled the move “a misstep” arguing that taking advice from a non-specialist who can only offer a single product will not benefit consumers.
