Agenda: The direct debate

The surprising news over the last couple of months was that Quinn Insurance had taken over from RSA the role as primary insurer for Laing O'Rourke on a direct basis. This seems to have been a deal done between the two Irish principals and not one arranged by the holding broker, Kerry London.

The latter has been retained as a consulting broker but, from the tone of the press reports, it did not have a part in recommending Quinn as the primary insurer. The news was surprising on a number of levels:

 Laing O'Rourke is the largest privately owned construction company in the UK. It is a global player with major operations in Australia, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. It has a turnover of over £4bn and an order book in excess of £10bn. Its contracts are large and complex, including

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
