Co-op's GI division makes a loss of £13m

The Co-operative Group's general insurance business made a loss of £13m for 2015 compared to the £1m loss the division posted for the previous year.

The company said profit was in line with expectations until the impact of last year's flooding in the north of England which meant it had to absorb a £13m outlay.

Net earned premiums declined to £343m in 2015 (2014: £371m) according to The Co-op, while gross written premiums increased due to a rise in new motor business during the final quarter.
