‘Ghost broker’ jailed after car insurance scam

Man goes to prison for selling invalid motor cover.

A man was sentenced to 15 months in prison yesterday for selling invalid car insurance to more than 100 motorists in the Bradford and Leeds area.

Razwan Iqbal posed as a car insurance broker or "ghost broker" and operated under the company name Direct Car.

He advertised cheaper premiums in local restaurants and visited customers' homes to sell them his products.

Iqbal obtained real insurance policies from five insurers using false personal details in order to get the premiums at a cheaper price
