Thoresen urges FCA to tone down the rhetoric

Otto Thoresen, director general of the Association of British Insurers (ABI), has called on the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to engage with balanced rhetoric to head of a confrontational relationship with the industry.

Mr Thoresen made his comments as he answered a question by Dr Alexander Scott, chief executive of the Chartered Insurance Institute after a lecture at Lloyd's.

Mr Scott noted that in a recent interview, Martin Wheatley, chief executive designate of the FCA, had appeared to resemble former Tory MP, Michael Heseltine, insofar as being the new Tarzan who would regulate before breakfast, before lunch and after dinner.
