QBE reveals only one in six SMEs will hire staff this year

QBE's Investment in Staff survey of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) has shown that only one in six (15%) of those questioned are looking to hire more staff in 2010.

QBE said that while this gave a dire outlook for those who have graduated this summer and are looking for work, there were some interesting findings from the report on how to go about securing a job.

Of those questioned, 72% placed a great deal of importance on first impressions at the first meeting, with speaking skills and body language following closely behind (69% / 68% respectively). Just over half (51%) valued references from current or past employers, 48% a well presented CV and 14%

Aviva doubling down for customers, says Martin

Aviva is committed to pushing on with an “absolute focus on customer” and will continue “doubling down”, David Martin, managing director for UK commercial and chief distribution officer, told Insurance Age as he teased a “major new proposition” pencilled in for the end of the third quarter will catch brokers’ eyes.
