Letter of the month - Please do not let the letters page showcase one-man band

Over the years I have watched Simon Burgess blow his own trumpet on some of the dafter schemes to hit the trade and national newspaper headlines.

It seems that now he is waging a one-man battle on payment protection insurance - to the extent that in every one of the trade press letters pages, his are the only letters to appear.

Could you please become the envy of your competitors and make an ex-broker very happy by not printing everything he sends to you.

I am sure that there are many and varied opinions on a wider range of subjects than all of Simon Burgess's letters would indicate.

When I was a broker I wrote irregularly to the insurance press but seldom got anything published.

However, brokers now seem to be too snowed under and have no time to pen letters to the editor.

It's probably all the fault of the Financial Services Authority!

I would urge brokers to find the time to take the opportunity to air valid opinions to prevent letters pages everywhere from being a platform for just one man's views.

On Wednesday afternoon, after weeks of speculation (and an unprecedented early leak by the Office for Budget Responsibility), the Chancellor finally revealed her second Budget. Tom Golding, PKF Littlejohn partner considers some of the main tax changes and what these may mean for insurance brokers.
