It is impossible to avoid emitting carbon, so paying someone else to make a carbon saving is an increasingly popular choice.

The first step for any broker considering carbon offsetting is to calculate its emissions. Liverpool-based Medicash used a local third party to calculate the company's carbon footprint, including the effect of its 71 employees' journeys into work. After taking advice on how to reduce the company's impact, it decided to offset the cash equivalent by a multiple of 10.

Broking profits fall at Saga

Underlying profit before tax in Saga’s insurance broking arm fell to £39.8m for the year ended 31 January 2024, compared with £71.5m in the previous period.
