Highway has strengthened its retail division by acquiring telebroker Direct Motorline. DM employs 70 staff and handles more than 33,000 private-car and commercial-vehicle motor policies generating brokerage income of £3.7m from gross written premiums in excess of £13m. It will continue to operate as Direct Motorline and is expected to make a profit of around £500,000 in 2005. Neil Hames, director of DM, will head up the operation.
