Following recent changes in the allocation of legal aid, there is an increasingly pressing need for individuals to cover their own interests. David Fanning looks at the products on offer.

Courtesy of the Lord Chancellor, legal expenses underwriters and
distributors are soon to see a huge growth in product sales. The removal
of legal aid from virtually all non-criminal actions, the proposed
swingeing reduction in the asset ceiling for legal aid eligibility, and
the statutory recoverability of insurance premiums for after-the-event
policies have combined to make personal legal expenses insurance a
sensible precaution for policyholders not already covered by a compulsory
household

GI AR numbers fall again
