Brokers that do not receive commission payments from insurers will have to calculate a notional commission, if the Financial Services Authority's CP 192 proposals for fees become law. The FSA has proposed the notional figure be created by multiplying the volume of lending/premiums by 10%, giving an equivalent to what a commission-based intermediary would earn on the same business.
The FSA intends to use this method as the basis for determining a firm's ongoing annual fees and fee band.
