A ray of light?

The ongoing employers' liability situation is casting a shadow over the industry and it is time the issue is resolved. Jennifer Weller says a new working group may help find a way out of the shade.

It all started when Martin Cook, owner of three small mines in Wales,
phoned the British Insurance Brokers' Association in August. Mr Cook's
employers' liability insurance had risen from £150,000 to £500,000 and he
was desperate to find a broker who could offer him better terms. He
described the rates he had been offered as "commercial suicide",
equivalent to paying 10% of his annual turnover in premiums.


Mr Cook had already made 85 staff redundant from Betws Anthracite near
Swansea while he tried

GI AR numbers fall again

The general insurance and protection sector saw the biggest fall in the number of appointed representatives last financial year, the Financial Conduct Authority has calculated.
