Feeling the strain.

The increasing public desire for companies to be held accountable for management failures is adding a further complication to the already troubled directors' bag, says Julian Elm.

In recent weeks, there has been a distinct feeling of deja vu to
events reported in the financial press - almost as if we have returned to
the early 1990s. Major companies are cutting back on investment and
employees, and disastrous results are emerging from major public
companies.


To underline this feeling, Railtrack has been put into administration by
the Government over what it sees as management failures.
