Niche insurer Ecclesiastical has reported a pre-tax profit of £77.1m for the year ending 31 December, compared to £101m in 2005. The insurer's group underwriting profit was £27m, compared to £38.3m in 2005. The 2006 combined ratio deteriorated to 88.5% however, gross written premium climbed £40m to £403.5m.

Commenting on the results, group chief executive Michael Tripp, who took over in January, said: "Ecclesiastical has continued to turn in consistent performances and steady growth year-on-year

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1

Average home insurance premiums for buildings and contents cover rose by 3% to £375 in the first quarter of this year, pushing the year-on-year rise up to 19%, according to the Association of British Insurers.
