A change of gear

The broker market seems to be coming of age, with the high-flyers of the 1970s approaching retirement. This does not mean the market is heading for a fall, however, so long as it moves with the times, says Jennifer Weller.

Over 86% of UK brokers believe there will be a substantial decrease
in the number of broking companies during the next 12 to 18 months,
according to a recent survey by broker accountant and business adviser
Mazars.

Only 14% of the brokers surveyed believed market consolidation would have
a positive effect on their business. Respondents also revealed their
strategy for growth, with over 78% of brokers believing they will grow
through the acquisition of either personnel or other broking
companies.
