Confusion over a new IT system.
Q: My software supplier is installing a new system for us. It produced an implementation plan but I am still confused, especially over man-days and elapsed days.
A: The first things to bear in mind when installing a new system isthat if something can go wrong it will and IT people are born optimists.
For these reasons, you must reduce risk and ensure all estimates are
realistic and contain at least 20% contingency.
Also, I would recommend that people are only allocated four days a week -
this covers meetings and provides extra contingency. It is important to
make sure everything is in the plan including staff training and known
