For years, I have been expressing my abhorrence in these pages aboutthe practice of insurers clawing back pro-rata commission when an insuredhas varied or cancelled a policy mid-term. I mentioned this appallinghabit again a few months back ('Sins of Commission', August 2002), spurredby the news that the liquidators of Independent Insurance were demandingthat brokers should return commission where their cover with Independenthad been terminated early.
