It’s been a difficult year in the SME space. Some brokers have gone to the wall, others have merged and some have sold out to competitors in a blatant cry for help. Margins are down, costs are up, and the amount of new business moving around the market is at an all-time low. In short, the pips are squeaking. These are not good times to be a commercial insurance broker and anyone who tells you differently may well have started on the Christmas sherry a bit early this year.
