Operating profits in UK up to £259m at RSA

COR improved however net written premium fell in the insurer's 2016 results.

RSA has posted an operating profit of £259m for UK business for the full year 2016, a sharp increase on the £147m delivered for 2015.

The combined operating ratio (COR) also improved to 95.4% from 99.5%.

The personal lines COR came in at 95.7% (2015: 95.9%) and the commercial COR improved from 102.3% to 95.2%.

The results further showed that total net written premium actually fell from £2.61bn last year to £2.51bn.

Personal lines premium fell to £1.06bn (2015: £1.11bn) and commercial lines
