MD for intermediated business at Legal & General says insurer wants to expand its buy-to-let broker distribution channels.

Mark Holweger, managing director for intermediated business at Legal & General (L&G) noted that the general insurance business had seen a strong set of results after it reported a 36% rise in operating profit for the first half of the year.

Holweger told Insurance Age that two of the drivers behind the results had been benign weather and a focus to drive efficiency up in the insurer's claims management operation, but added that the firm had seen a fall in revenue.

ABI records 3% home premiums rise in Q1

Average home insurance premiums for buildings and contents cover rose by 3% to £375 in the first quarter of this year, pushing the year-on-year rise up to 19%, according to the Association of British Insurers.
