Staysure fined £175,000 for IT security failings

Information Commissioner's Office says hackers were able to access customer records.

Staysure.co.uk has been fined £175,000 by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) after IT security failings allowed hackers to access customer records.

The ICO, set up to uphold and promote data privacy for individuals, said more than 5,000 customers had their credit cards used by fraudsters after the attack on Staysure.

Hackers potentially had access to 100,000 live credit card details held by the online holiday insurance company, as well as customers' medical details.

The ICO also said

Only users who have a paid subscription or are part of a corporate subscription are able to print or copy content.
