Ghost broking scam: Two admit to laundering proceeds

Judge's gavel

Two men have admitted to the Old Bailey that they laundered the proceeds of a nationwide motor insurance scam, netting more than £500,000.

Abdullai Alli and Kevin Lewis opened bank accounts to be used by conman Danyal Buckharee.

Buckharee admitted to the Old Bailey in February 2013 that he had set up two fake websites, Aston Midshires Insurance and First Car Direct Insurance, advertising cheap car insurance.

Between May 2011 and April 2012, 600 drivers were duped into buying worthless policies. Customers were first warned over these invalid policies by the regulator in January 2012.

Buckharee was arrested following an investigation
