Insurers named and shamed by FOS

complaint

UK Insurance, part of Royal Bank of Scotland, racked up the highest number of general insurance complaints referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) according to new figures.

The UK's largest personal lines insurer - which includes the likes of Direct Line and Churchill - saw 1,541 cases referred to the financial watchdog in the six month period from 1 January to 30 June 2012.

The figure, which excluded payment protection insurance complaints, was not broken down by individual companies within the group.

In second place for general insurance non-PPI complaints was Axa Insurance UK which saw 557 cases referred during the same period.
