Biba 2011: Biba/IIB merger could drive regulatory change

The proposed merger of the British Insurance Brokers’ Association (Biba) and the Institute of Insurance Brokers (IIB) will give the broking industry “one strong voice”.

The prediction came as Eric Galbraith, chief executive of Biba, welcomed brokers to this year’s Biba Conference and focused his speech strongly on regulatory matters.

In the speech, he reiterated his arguments made earlier this year of the need for the broking industry to have more appropriate and proportionate regulation.

But for this to be achieved, he argued, the industry needed a strong, single voice in order for the authorities to take notice.
