Regulator dished out £33m in bonuses last year

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) paid out £33m in bonuses last year and pays, on average, over £92,000 to its 3,300 employees.

The statistics were revealed in the FT Adviser after a Freedom of Information Request. The FSA revealed that 213 employees earned over £100,000 and a further 198 earned between £100,000 and £199,000.

A further 11 are paid between £200,000 and £299,000 with four more receiving more than £300,000.

But the highest earner, as revealed in the regulator’s last annual report, is chief executive Hector Sants who takes a salary of £478,000. His chairman, Lord Turner, takes a relatively more modest £219
