The Competition Appeal Tribunal has ruled that the Competition Commission must reconsider its point of sale prohibition proposals

The Competition Commission (CC) must reconsider its plans to ban selling payment protection insurance (PPI) at point of sale, following a tribunal ruling.

In Barclays Bank v Competition Commission, the Competition Appeal Tribunal has concluded that “the imposition of the point of sale prohibition (POSP) must be quashed and remitted for reconsideration”.

The appeal followed a CC report entitled Market Investigation into Payment Protection Insurance on 29 January 2009. The application by Barclays
