Electronic data interchange (EDI) does not use the web or any of its protocols, much less any of the latest eXtensible Mark-up Language (XML) solutions that power imarket and much of e-business. Electronic it may be, but e-commerce it is not. However, it is its relative simplicity that gives EDI so much of its strength and reliability. It has become the major tool for private motor insurance, and there will not be any major changes soon.
