Both Paul Meehan and Paul Moors were at the Ricky Hatton fight in Las Vegas. Meehan, who was recently unable to attend his own company's Christmas party because he was moving into a new house, commented about Las Vegas: "You just can't sleep the place is so screwy. I was glad to get away; it is like a lunatic asylum." However, he enjoyed the boxing: "The fight was magnificent - Floyd ('Pretty Boy') Mayweather is one of the all time greats. He is up there with Sugar Ray Leonard - his tactics were brilliant and it wasn't really a contest." Meehan would not comment on speculation that the trip had been funded by his new paymasters, Axa.

T'was some nights before Christmas when, at the base of the Gherkin, a select gathering of the industry's finest could be seen at the Venture Preference Christmas party. Into the collective thrum of salubrious insurance types stumbled this publication's ex-editor, Richard Adams. Dressed in black tie, he'd obviously had a better offer and only stayed long enough to find someone to do up his flailing bow tie. Fortunately BIBA's technical director, Peter Staddon, was on hand to assist while a merry Eric Galbraith looked on bellowing "I can't believe you keep doing it wrong again and again Peter!" For any that overheard this, PB would like to reassure them that his comments were not work related.

Meanwhile, Simon Cooter at Brit is determined for his Blackberry to be off this Christmas and wants to become a full-time dad for a week. He added that his new year's resolution was to use the Brit Oval more this summer to help brokers get over the disappointment of England not qualifying for the European Championship.

Finally, hard working Grant Ellis has a simple but understandable resolution: "to take more holiday".
