Dane Douetil, chief executive of Brit, is a man who is cleary quite concerned about his image. After spotting a photograph of himself not to his liking in the Brit Oval hospitality box, he asked for it to be taken down - or an unflattering picture of the person who chose it would be hung up instead. When he returned, needless to say, it was no longer there. He had no such choice about the picture that appeared on the front cover of this publication last December.

NIG deserves a mention after thanking Professional Broking's editorial team for attending a World Cup party. Unfortunately, we were not there as we had not actually been invited - we are sure the invitation was just lost in the post. We hope those who attended enjoyed it!

Although they have not exactly been easy on the eye - see the laboured 1-0 victory over Ecuador - we would nonetheless like to wish England our continued support in Germany, and hope that we have defeated 'Big Phil' Scolari, at the third time of asking, by the time this has hit your desk.

Following Layton Blackham's recent acquisition announcement, we expected Chris Blackham to be hard at work. Alas, we interviewed him on the way to the tennis at Wimbledon as a guest of an insurance giant. We hope you enjoyed the day Chris!

Brokers have mixed reaction on Zurich/Beazley deal

Insurance brokers have given a mixed response to the potential Zurich/Beazley deal highlighting the acquisition would create a “strong proposition” and could create opportunities but noted another competitor leaving the market as a medium-term worry.
