Divine intervention for brokers?

It's not often that one is struck by an amusing insurance advert when strolling through the picturesque parts of Soho, but one morning proved to be a little different last month when Overheard stumbled across an unusual bumper sticker.

Attached to the railings was a white label proclaiming: "Jesus Saves! On his car insurance thanks to unnecessarymiddleman.com". Further investigation revealed that the website no longer exists, which perhaps means that the divine lord realised there was a need for brokers after all, withdrew his insurance policy and consequently caused the direct insurer to collapse.

Insurance broker Lifesearch announced it had helped Asda sell over £1bn worth of life insurance policies over the past year. Asda Life has written 8,119 protection policies under the partnership and has increased its policy sales by more than 50% compared to the previous year. Still, one can't help but think the Asda staff's motto of "Always happy to help" probably doesn't apply when it comes to underwriting nuances and filling out claims forms.

Overheard's spies inside the headquarters of the British Insurance Brokers' Association have revealed the horrendous multi-coloured tie worn by regulation and compliance manager Steve White at PB's relaunch party was in fact a freebie from DAS at a 2007 corporate event. Our mole quipped: "I think they were a free giveaway from one of the conference stands at BIBA conference last year! Just shows that even our staff take our non-profit status seriously too!" Indeed. See our pictures of the PB relaunch event at professionalbroking.co.uk.
