Insurer Royal & SunAlliance delivered an 84.9% combined operating ratio for the first three months of the year in its household lines.

This helped boost personal lines underwriting profit by £8m to £10m over the same period last year. The COR improved in personal lines to 94.4%, an improvement over 98.8% in the first quarter of 2005.

Overall, its underwriting profit climbed 6% to £35m in the first quarter of 2006.

Net written premium fell to £605m compared to £653m in the same period last year
