Changes to maternity and paternity rights will come into effect from6 April 2003, after the Employment Bill received Royal Assent to become
the Employment Act 2002. The basic rate of statutory maternity pay will
increase from £75 to £100, six months' paid and a further six months'
unpaid maternity leave for working mothers and adoptive parents, and two
weeks' paid paternity leave for fathers, paid at the same rate as
maternity pay.
