Axa UK's general insurance arm saw profits rise from £68m to £127m during 2005, with a gross written premium of £1.9bn. Axa's expense ratio declined to 10.7%, and its loss ratio was 54.2%. Gross written premium in commercial grew by 6% to £797m, while its commercial book shrunk by 1%. Rates in commercial lines increased by 1.4% overall.
