Cyber attacks hit a third of businesses globally

Almost one in three organisations globally have been hit by a successful cyber attack in the past year as incidents become a recurring cost, according to research from Hiscox.

In its 10th annual Cyber Readiness Report, based on a survey of 6,800 cyber security decision-makers across the UK, Europe and the US, Hiscox found that, on average, cyber incidents cost organisations around $52,000 (£38,600).

The insurer also reported on top of this comes an approximate 32 hours of operational disruption caused by a cyber attack.

One in three said the incident delayed growth and expansion plans (32%), and similar numbers cited an increase in staffing cost (31%), financial damage

IPT receipts to hit record-high £9bn

Annual income from the Insurance Premium Tax in 2025/26 is set to break through last year’s record, coming just shy of £9bn, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility’s Autumn Budget projections.
