Podcast: Reid and Clegg present Double Indemnity – episode 12, Cameron Specialty’s Tom Kirkland

MGA entrepreneur Tom Kirkland joins Stuart Reid and Toby Clegg for the latest episode of the Double Indemnity podcast series.

The founder and CEO of Cameron Specialty speaks candidly about going from a Croydon call centre two decades ago to running a specialist property MGA that has grown to £10m GWP through organic growth since inception in 2021.

Described as the “Jeff Bezos of insurance”, by Clegg, Kirkland, pictured centre,  jokes about how he has insurance “in the blood” having followed his grandfather and father into the sector, as well as outlining how he started Cameron Specialty from a shed in his garden.

Now with an office in EC3, Kirkland offers advice to other budding insurance entrepreneurs and MGA founders on the pitfalls of going alone, as well as outlining his own ambitious plans, including international expansion, M&A and a broking arm.

He also explains how investment from BP Marsh has given it firepower for the future and the “ethos” that makes Cameron Specialty stand out in the market today.
