AA brands removal of tax disk insurance check 'absurd'

Car

The AA has branded the DVLA’s proposed removal of the insurance check when car owners apply for a tax disk as “absurd”.

The current online application system confirms that both insurance and MoT are valid, and those buying their tax disk at a Post Office are required to produce a paper insurance certificate.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said the proposal to remove the insurance check would “send out entirely the wrong message” and undo the hard work carried out by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, the government and the insurance industry to reduce the number of uninsured vehicles on British roads.
