Consumer group Which? has revealed that ten of the UK’s twelve biggest water companies are promoting supply pipe insurance which is potentially unnecessary.

The watchdog said the sale of such cover could be costing consumers more than £100m each year.

According to Which?, water companies are promoting “expensive” supply pipe insurance even though they already offer their own free pipe repair schemes which customers are automatically entitled to use.
