Overheard has learned of a recent acquisition by Camberford Law supremo, Richard Sheikh, in the form of an apartment on a recently built island off the coast of Dubai. Apparently, the development has a shelf-life of several years after which it will sink without a trace, unlike Network Extra ... no, that would be cruel.
Back in EC3, canapes and drinks were rudely interrupted by an alarmingly loud thunderstorm at a recent GE Frankona Re reception on the usually delightful roof terrace of the Coq d'Argent. But, torrential rain didn't dampen spirits and, when lightning struck, the hosts contented themselves with the thought that owner Terrance Conran would probably be liable if things got worse.
High-rise problems of a different kind emerged between the bouts of thunder.
It seems that some US applicants for health insurance are being a little untruthful about their use of Viagra. Although only 5% admit to using it, once GP checks are made, the actual figure is apparently closer to 25%.
Further towering problems emerged last month at Marsh's flagship UK headquarters at Tower Place. Chief executive officer, Bruce Carnegie-Brown, while trying to access the top-floor balcony for PB's cover photography, was greeted by a health and safety officer who denied him access. Some undisclosed peril lurked beyond the confines of the office but, whatever it was, it is probably safe to assume it is insured. Carnegie-Brown plus editorial entourage were ushered to the West tower balcony, famous for being virtually impossible to walk on due to it being dressed with large and loose cobbles - not much risk there - hence the apparently stricken East tower appearing left of Carnegie-Brown in the cover shot.
