It has been a busy month in broking and it was great to see everybody having a well-deserved break on a Friday afternoon at the UK Broker Awards. Highlights included snakes in the bar and some very merry brokers!

In September there were several great events to support the Insurance Leadership Group, which raises money for the Prince's Trust. A seven-a-side football tournament, played on a sunny day in Regent's Park, was well attended and raised £30,000. Many may be relieved to learn that Axa could not pull off victory despite having four teams in the competition. Congratulations to the Transatlantic Reinsurance Company team that won!

Altogether, the ILG has raised a staggering £3million in just over a year. An auction organised by the group included the prize of lunch with Margaret Thatcher, which helped raise tens of thousands of pounds more. There were a lot of brokers in the room that had just made a little bit of cash, so plenty of money was pledged to a brilliant cause. Stephen Wall attended the auction and was there in body, although not necessarily in mind, following a liquid lunch with Chris Giles.

Meanwhile, after hearing about Towergate's purchase of his software supplier, Stuart Reid rang Clive Nathan to complain his server was down.

Cover star Peter Blanc is still trying to pay for his celebratory drinks following his firm's victory at the British Insurance Awards. He ended up in a certain club that he told Overheard he insures, further assuring us that is the only reason he knows about it, and was mercilessly tricked into buying a magnum of champagne. Whatever you say, Peter!
