The legal spat between brokers, insurers and the owner of the multi-million pound patent for online comparative facilities is set to come to a head, with Polaris on the verge of going to court.

The owner of a patent for online comparative facilities claimed that imarket, the electronic trading portal headed up by Polaris, has infringed the patent's original design.

The patent, which has been valued at between £17.2 and £22.5m relates to online updating of data which facilitates price comparisons
