Hard work brings scant reward

Melanie Hampton decries the manner in which the state, its regulation and large corporate players fail to support smaller enterprises and asks just what room is left in the market for companies like hers to survive

I started my business nearly 17 years ago and have worked very hard, withstanding numerous storms, shouldering responsibility and providing employment. I am proud of my success but, like so many other small brokers, I am wary of the years ahead. So far, I have resisted the sharks longing to eat a little minnow like me at a knockdown price but there are not many small independents left, so what does the future hold for brokerages like mine?
