PPI complaints account for half of FOS’ workload

The ombudsman opened 36,065 new PPI cases between October and December last year.

The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) received 70,908 new complaints in the final three months of 2016 with payment protection insurance (PPI) accounting for over half of the workload.

PPI accounted for 36,065 new cases taking the total for the financial year from April 2016 to December up to 121,557.

Overall across all products for the year to date to December the FOS has received 231,280 complaints which means that PPI accounted for 53% of the total.
