New Aviva chief keen to learn from brokers

The new chief executive for UK and Ireland general insurance at Aviva, Robin Spencer, has admitted he needs to get up to speed in his relationships with brokers but said he was lucky to be inheriting a strong team in his new role.

Mr Spencer, who was appointed today, was previously CEO of Aviva Canada before becoming chief risk officer at Aviva plc.

He told Insurance Age that his experience in Canada would hold him in good stead due to the high level of similarities between the two brokered businesses. He listed relationships, technical ability, building infrastructure and making brokers' lives as easy as possible as being the steps he had taken previously.
