Admiral Group reports 5% rise in profit

Admiral Group reported a 5% rise in profit before tax to £105.3m for the first six months of 2009, compared to the same period last year.

Group turnover was up 17% at £540.1m (H1 2008: £463.4m) while group net revenue increased 19% to £243.1m (H1 2008: £204m).

Overall, the number of customers grew 18% to 1.92 million from 1.63 million at 30 June 2008. Profit from UK car insurance was up 18% to £101.2m (H1 2008: £86m) while turnover from outside the UK was £24.5m, up 64% on the same period last
